Mr. Waldemar Pawlak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Poland (DPM), visited Silicon Valley, Stanford University, and San Francisco on April 29 – May 1. The visit was of major importance to the effort of building bridges between Poland’s knowledge based economy and California, the world leader in innovativeness.
At Stanford University, in the prestigious Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, the deputy prime minister delivered a lecture on “Poland in the Integrated Europe”. The talk highlighted the economic achievements of Poland since Poland rejected the Soviet system in June of 1989. The talk also addressed the role of East-Central European countries in the future of innovative economy of the European Union linking it to the vibrant economy of the same region, now comprised of many countries within the European Union and of Ukraine and Belarus to the many centuries of their commonwealth and cooperation. Professor Michael McFaul of Stanford University introduced the DPM and led the Q&A session.
